Just a Thought
The other day we were in a meeting and we had a fireman from the city of Phoenix telling us about how to keep from being dehydrated and summer time safety. Here in Phoenix toward the middle of June the temperature can get over 110 F. The fireman speaking was bald and talking about how his head gets hot or sun burnt. I frequently just say things that usually make people laugh but I am serious.
This time I said “You should paint your head silver” which made everyone laugh, so I was embarrassed and didn’t explain myself. But if they would have asked me what I meant by that I would have said. That in the 80’s I was working on Air Conditioners and some of these were on two story commercial buildings. The buildings have silver reflective paint on the roofs so that the sun’s rays would be reflected and keep the building cooler.
So what I was thinking was what if you combined sun block 30 and found some silver reflective face paint. Or you could just put the paint on some thin loose cotton shirt and white cotton swim trunks. Then the sun’s rays would be reflected and airplanes would be able to spot you for over 20 miles.
When I was hiking in the desert I seen something shining on a mountain I would walk a mile or two just to find a piece of Mica or a broken pop bottle. People flying planes will do this too, if they see something reflecting in the desert the size of a man they fly by just to see what it is, it is just natural curiosity.
("Mica") Many metallic-looking pigments are composed of a substrate of mica coated with another mineral, usually titanium dioxide (TiO2). The resultant pigment produces a reflective color depending on the thickness of the coating. These products are used to produce automobile paint, shimmery plastic containers, high quality inks used in advertising and security applications. In the cosmetics industry, its reflective and refractive properties make mica an important ingredient in blushes, eye liner, eye shadow, foundation, hair and body glitter, lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, moisturizing lotions, and nail polish. Some brands of toothpaste include powdered white mica.

Young people today and non-technical people are ditching their computers for the new Ipads.
According to Stephanie Chang editor of PC Magazine July 2012 Edition she states that her family of four has three Ipads and really could use a fourth. She says that there is no better device to read headlines, check scores, watch movies or your favorite shows and also keeps kids occupied with Internet and games. She says that CEO Tim Cook has noted that Apple sold 67 million Ipads in just two years but that it took Apple 24 years to sell that many computers. Stephanie also says that there are already over 200,000 apps for the Ipad available in the App Store.
This is disturbing because young people are not learning how to use computers and will only be able to use smart phones and Ipads when they get a job. Students were learning to use Computer Software such as Microsoft Office in Elementary Schools but a lot of schools are closing their computer labs because schools don’t have enough money. Even 6 years ago students did not know enough about computers when they entered college. When texting came out students quit talking on their phones and don’t have proper speaking abilities.
